An entire economy now exist to outfit criminals with virtual tools they need to commit cybercrime.  This underworld includes specialized auction sites, product advertising and even support services. Competition has become so intense on these web sites that customer service has become a specific selling point for organized crime gangs that operate these web sites and IRC forums. These Bad Guys will openly advertise and sell personal information such as your birth date, social security number, address, and credit card number. They are in business to rent and sell Botnets (to send out spam, jam a web site, monitor keystrokes to detect peoples's passwords or even have malware create them.

 

The black market for stolen data (e.g. date of birth, social security number, address, and credit card number) is now well developed and the cost of obtaining this information is very affordable.  There is a cycle of supply and demand that is enabling the commercialization of cybercrime.
